Please join us for our first meeting of the 2018-19 academic year (and first for the semester). This meeting will be an open session to talk about any and all issues related to race happening at UNC that you want to talk about, such as the toppling of Silent Sam and the discussion of what should happen to the statue. With that in mind, the readings for this session are two blog posts by Dr. John McGowan about the recent events at UNC:
1) “No, it was not mob rule, it was civil disobedience”: https://jzmcgowan.com/2018/08/22/no-it-was-not-mob-rule-it-was-civil-disobedience/
2) “Further thoughts on civil disobedience”: https://jzmcgowan.com/2018/08/25/further-thoughts-on-civil-disobedience/
We will have 2 more meetings in the fall and 3 in the spring. If you would like to lead a session or propose an idea for this session, please contact us at RacialLiteracies@unc.edu.
